Gatlinburg, TN, a major resort city an hour away from Dandridge, offers another type of adventure if you are looking to take a day trip from the lake. Gatlinburg is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and so it is the connection to the hiking and National Park discoveries such as Newfound Gap, Clingman’s Dome, Chimney Tops and more.
Rafting
Rafting is often associated with Gatlinburg, however, the rafting is closer to us in the Hartford area. The Big Pigeon River is the river in this area for rafting. It is located in nearby Hartford, TN and is only approximately 25 minutes away. We like to recommend Rafing in the Smokies. Located at 3595 Harford Rd. 800-776-7238 or www.raftinginthesmokies.com. They offer completely different experiences in two options, the Upper Pigeon River and the Lower Pigeon River.
