Statement on the Wildfires of the Smoky Mountains

With the wildfires of this week becoming nationwide headline news, we wanted to two things:

1. Put out a statement on how the wildfires affected us – our cabins and office at Douglas Lake Vacations were NOT affected by any of the wildfire action. The wildfires took place in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge very far away from us. There is no need to cancel or change any reservation plans.

2. Encourage you to come out and vacation in the Smokies all the same. As of right now, the fires are not completely put out, but they are still in much, much greater control and all of the attractions in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Wears Valley and, yes, Douglas Lake are still open and operating business as usual.

We’ve had some people ask us what they can do to help and the answer is our #2 item above – come on back to the Smokies! The lifeblood of our area is tourism and nothing will get us back to normal any quicker than just getting back to normal – having fun in the mountains, celebrating the holidays and reminding everyone that our mountain spirits burn brighter than any conflagration. Our smiles and songs of joy during Christmas will prove it!

If you’d like to consider donating remotely all the same, we recommend visiting Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries for their Fire Rescue Hope challenge:
